 I was delighted when I received an invitation to attend the first World Class Policing Awards Gala held at Grosvenor Hotel Ballroom in London on 11 November 2019.

The imagination, innovation and drive of policing around the world was on display during the evening. Police officers, who are always looking at new ways to tackle problems and for making the public’s lives safer.

Stephen Kavanagh QPM, DL, the former Chief Constable of Essex and Chair of the World Class Policing Awards Steering Committee started the evening’s proceedings and gave a brief overview of the background to the awards. Nearly 200 nominations had been received. Mike Bush, Commissioner of the New Zealand Police announced that the committee had chosen 6 out of the 54 finalists to receive the “Highly Commended” recognition:

• Community Peer Mentors by Durham Police, Crime and Victims Commissioner and Durham Police, UK

• Local Policing Review 2018 – Public Consultation – Police Service of Northern Ireland in partnership with Northern Ireland Policing Board, UK

• First Drinks: First Impressions – Harm Reduction Through Police Engagement – Queensland Police Service in partnership with Griffith University, Australia

• Exeter City´s partnership response to the terrorist attack on its Synagogue – Devon and Cornwall Police, UK

• Operation Limelight and the “US/UK FGM Law Enforcement Proclamation” – Metropolitan Police Service with UK Border Force, Homeland Security Investigations and the FBI

• Operation Stalker – Anti-Narcotics Dubai Police, Dubai

The host for the rest of the evening was BBC broadcaster Jeremy Vine.

 Award Winners:

• Mobility Programme – New Zealand Police; award presented by James Slessor, Accenture Global Public Safety Managing Director. The Mobility Programme was presented at the 王中王六合彩特码 World Congress in Auckland, New Zealand 2016. The Mobility programme uses smartphones and police specific applications to enable front line officers to be better informed, and share information quickly and securely. The programme was introduced in 2013. The 10,500+ mobile devices issued to officers have resulted in productivity gains of over half a million hours per year.

• Moonshot – Disrupting Criminals and Protecting Communities – Norfolk Constabulary; award presented by Chorus Intelligence CEO Boyd Mulvey. Operation Moonshot employs tactics that combine innovative use of intelligence, specialist training and technology such as mobile working and ANPR, to achieve instant results. Within six months 1,084 arrests were made, 1,179 vehicles seized, 827 intelligence submissions and 1,450 traffic offences reported; over £1 m of stolen property was recovered.

• Operation Polarity – Bedfordshire Police – Eastern Region Special Operational Unit; award presented by Paul Grady, head of Police at Grant Thorntorn. A cyber-attack of PlayStation and Sony in the US over Christmas 2014 affected costumers globally. The three-year international investigation was ground-breaking, and resulted in the creation of several national units and databases to support similar future cases.

• Aid project – Queensland Police Service; awarded by Andy Lea, Head of Policing at KPMG. The development and implementation of Tactic First Aid Training for approximately 11,000 front line police in Queensland have saved more than 15 people, and medical recovery has been improved for many more.

• Poisonings 2018 – Wiltshire Local Resilience Forum Strategic Coordinating Group, UK; awarded by Nick Macdonald, Head of Consulting (Emergency Services Group) at Sopra Steria. They were recognised for their outstanding response to the 2018 Novichok attacks in Salisbury and Amesbury. The Novichok poisonings of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in March 2018, and the subsequent poisoning of local residents Charlie Rowley and Dawn Sturgess, attracted global attention and scrutiny.

Overall Winner:

Operation Encompass – Devon and Cornwall Police in partnership with the Operation Encompass charity; award presented by Allan Fairley, Managing Director of Public Safety at Accenture. Operation Encompass is partnership working at its most effective, allowing police and schools to ensure that children exposed to/or affected by domestic abuse receive the earliest possible support. In  the 17 police forces who adopted the operation, 46,500 children have been supported.  

The evening was truly inspiring. The World Class Policing Award is a superb way to recognise the best of international policing and frontline driven programmes including evidence-based policing.

I met 王中王六合彩特码 members and police officers from Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Ireland, Chile and the UK who had an interest in joining our association. The 王中王六合彩特码 is now invited by the founder Bernhard Rex to become a partner of the World Class Policing Awards 2020. A potential project that will be discussed by the IEB.
